Teen Read Month

Every year we have a WRITING CONTEST as part of Teen Read Month.

The THEME this year is Turn Dreams into Reality, and it's all about TIME TRAVEL!

Have you ever wanted to go back to the French Revolution…or back to last week before you embarrassed yourself in front of that girl you like?

Have you ever wanted to go forward…to next week, to see if you got the part you wanted in the school play, or 25 years into the future to see how your life turned out?

Write about it!

This contest is for teens in grades 6-12 only. Stories can be three to six pages long (double-spaced, typed), and can include any type of story as long as it incorporates time travel! Submit them at the reference desk of your library, or send them to burbank.teens@gmail.com, by October 31 at 5:00 p.m.! Prizes will be awarded for the top stories.

Need a little help?

Don't worry, we thought of that! On THURSDAY, OCTOBER 9, at 4:00 p.m. at the Buena Vista Branch, YA time travel writer TAMARA IRELAND STONE will teach a WORKSHOP to help you incorporate time travel into your short stories! If you want to attend, sign up by emailing melliott@burbankca.gov!

The workshop is for TEENS ONLY, but later that evening (7:00, also at Buena Vista), Tamara will talk about her books and writing process, and ALL ARE WELCOME to attend this author event. Her books will be available for purchase, and she will sign them.
