Louisa May Alcott

Come celebrate Louisa May Alcott's 180th birthday (November 29, 1832) with living history performer Valerie E. Weich.  Ms. Weich developed and wrote an original, one-woman performance, The Late Louisa May, about the author of Little Women, which she has presented to more than 8,000 local students, as well as hundreds of adults, since 2004.

"Miss Alcott" will discuss such famous contemporaries as Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, Nathaniel Hawathorne and her eccentric father, A. Bronson Alcott, as well as her Civil War experiences.  An accompanying exhibit of antiquarian editions of Miss Alcott's books, a variety of 19th century books and magazines, antique clothing and other period artifacts will be on display.

For the past year, Ms. Weich has been researching the life of Mary Shelley, author of Frankenstein, and is developing a new, one-woman presentation with an artist grant from the Puffin Foundation.
